What you are about to hear is an unexpected conversation that started out as an on air coaching call.

Katie, the mother of 4 children from Australia had signed up to be coached on air a while ago. She has been one of my faithful listeners. I reached out and as she began speaking I soon realized that this not a coaching episode, that  I need to hold space for her to share her story. Because it reminded me of the other stories I hear.

Women are struggling. They feel overwhelmed, alone, isolated, drained, needing of emotional support, even those in “happy” marriages.

The emotional load of motherhood is taking a toll on their mental health, well-being, relationships and parenting. The invisible workload of being a mother is killing women.

I do not have a solution but I know that we need to stop this silent epidemic. That’s why we are having conversations. That’s why we are sharing stories. Real stories. Stories that are hard to hear. Stories such as mine, in episode 194, The Dark Side of Motherhood, or Kelly's in episode 202, Setting Healthy Boundaries without Feeling Guilty or Mommy Burnout, episode 144, How To Reclaim Your Life and Raise Healthier Children in The Process.

Today, Katie is joining me from the mental hospital where she checked herself in.

This is one of the heaviest episodes of the podcast and the subject matter and the story it might be triggering, so listener discretion is advised.

Let this brave sharing give voice to the many untold stories of women who are silently suffering under the heavy load of modern motherhood.

Yes, it does take a village to raise children. But where is the village? It’s a ghost town.
