This is PART 1 of a two part show. With Dr. Laura Froyen, a friend, colleague and frequent co-host of the podcast, we took a deep dive into the topic of kids and chores, shared our own experiences growing up, what we think of the word “chore”, how we approach chores in our families, and most importantly answered some of the listener questions.

We discussed the “why” of doing chores. We talked about the importance of parental attitude, engaging kids seamlessly into the process and teaching crucial lessons and life-long skills, like responsibility and helpfulness and imparting our values without control.

SOME KEY POINTS

  • The power of intrinsic motivation
  • Age, development and age-appropriate expectations
  • Paying kids for chores or not
  • Do chore charts work?
  • And so much more

Think of this episode as a masterclass on chores. Read the article we mentioned in this epsiode.
